Journal #2 - Best Textures Photo

Artist Statement

Artist: Brittany Andrews
Title: "Take a Look"
Camera: Nikon D5100
Lens Type: Macro

The subject that i photographed was Terry Stevens.  I used my macro lens on my Nikon
D5100 and took a photo of his face to show detail and texture in his skin complexion.  When I was viewing it on my computer, I realised that this shot would look a lot better if i cropped it just so it shows his eyes, bridge of his nose, and a little bit of his forehead wrinkles.  I think the lighting turned out well since it was taken outdoors on a sunny day, I also think the light reflection in his eyes was successful.  The one problem with this photo is that you can't really notice if you look at the picture close up, is that since my aperture was at f/5.6, the right side of his face turned out relativity crisp so it makes it hard to notice.  Other than cropping his face in, I did not use Photo shop for editing.  Eyes in general influenced my photography because I love the several types of emotions you can grab out of a set of eyes.  I also like that every type of eye is interesting to look at with different colours and lines, it also shows different "stories" behind each eye such as if the person is happy or sad.  I think my image also turned out well because it's symmetrical which makes it pleasing for the human eye to look at.

Title: "Music"

The photo I took was of a stack of my CD's in my room.  This picture would be asymmetrical. The reason why I like this picture is because of the angle I got shoes no negative space and is a close up of them all, but you can still tell what the image is. I did not use a tripod or flash for this.  The lighting conditions were mid-day and sunny, and the light was from the sun shinning threw my bedroom window.  The aperture was f/8, and the shutter speed was 1/125 . I did not edit the picture at all, I just loaded it straight from my camera.
